I’m Jessica Straus, a Boston based sculptor and insatiable traveler with a passion for outsider art. Join me as I seek out and stumble upon all manner of things quirky and beautiful. I have a deep and expansive bank of visually ravishing images and a ravenous appetite for the wondrous oddities that populate our world. I travel far and wide to see outsider art environments and to meet their makers. My own labor-intensive sculpture practice is fed by these encounters with offbeat beauty. I keep an eye peeled for curiosities wherever I go. I find quirky marvels everywhere: close at hand, round the corner, on the other side of town, on and off the beaten track, and on the far side of the globe. What I love more than anything else is the irrepressible impulse to create.

I edit a newspaper in Oregon and we started “Calendar of Quirk” on Jan. 1, a year-long list of Quirk I compiled, now publishing one week at a time: public art, signage, multiple manifestations of the odd, obsolete and unusual. I just discovered your blog. Thanks for doing this. Neumann Rea (Burn the Ax Handle newsletter over on Substack.com)
